Reply from the Finnish friend class

The pupils in 5th grade C received this information from their friends in Finland, also members of the Comenius Project. These are the general questions and both the Spanish and Finnish answers.

When does your school usually start in the morning?
At what time do you finish your school day?

School starts at 9.00 in the morning and finishes at 13:10 in the afternoon, then we have a lunch break. Later, school starts again at 15:10 and finishes at 16:55 in the afternoon every day.

Our school day starts at 8.15 and it ends at 12.00, 13.15 or 14.15.

What do you do with your friends during the breaks?
Do you play some games etc?

We play football and basketball outdoors. If it rains, we play games, such as “have tomato”, it is a hand clapping game and we sing while we play.

We play football, talk with friends, walk around the field, build snow castles in the winter, swing, climb and we read for tests.

Can you name some typical school lunches at your school? What are your favourites?

Some typical food in my school is chicken, fish, rice and eggs, lasagna, beans, yoghurt, fruit and milk.
Our favourite food is beans, soup, chicken and lasagna. Beans is a typical food in our region, they are cooked with ham and a special type of sausage.

We have lasagna, spaghetti, kinder egg surprise potatoes, pea soup, fish, meatballs, beef with cheese sauce and porridge.

What do you do during the sport lessons this week?

We are doing circuits and abdominal exercises this week. We run every Friday. We also play rugby, some of us like it, but others do not.

We are skating and playing ice-hockey.

What do you do during the music lessons this week?

We are playing the recorder in the music classroom. We sometimes watch opera videos.

We are playing the ukulele and singing.

What do you do during the art lessons this week?

We are making a collage of one of Fernando Botero’s paintings. We have to draw one of his paintings and, then, fill it in with pieces and balls made of tissue paper.

We are drawing sailing boats.

Do you celebrate Valentine’s day in your country?
Did you have some special program at school on Valentine’s day?

No, we don’t. People do not usually celebrate St. Valentine’s Day at school in Spain.  However, we are celebrating carnival at school on Friday 28th in the afternoon. We are wearing costumes and making a sports circuit. There is special food and we eat a lot. A lot of people celebrate carnival in our city. We love carnival!

We celebrate Valentine’s Day in Finland with all our friends. At school we play a game called secret friends and we have hug hearts, we have a dance.

And, finally, these are the beautiful photos they exchanged.
